Yunnan, the eighth largest province in China, has an area of 394000 square kilometers and is similar in size to Japan. It borders Guizhou Province and Guangxi Autonomous Region on the east, reaches north to Sichuan Province and the Tibetan Autonomous Region. On the west and the south it borders Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. It has a 4000 kilometer international boundary.
